Based on the reports coming from 9to5google, Google Play Store could be the next app in line which will get the material design makeover with version 14.5.52. The report is based on the APK teardown carried out by the 9to5google team. This new makeover was uncovered after activating the feature flag. The last app to get the material design makeover was Google Contacts which was way back in February.
As you may have already known, the material design is making a lot of changes across how elements and tabs are placed. For example, as seen in the screenshot, the main navigational tab of the Play Store is being moved to the bottom. The good old tabs such as books, movies, and games are still available at the bottom but now the background is completely white instead of the corresponding colors they used to have in the old version. That old background color is being added as the text color on top of the white background. The underlying sections from these tab menu items are available at the top.
Search Bar – Revamped in the Google Play Store
The top search bar has also been revamped with rounded corners and has a respective text based on which category you’re browsing. For example, if you’re in the movies tab, it will show the text “Search for Movies” instead of Google Play logo.
The install button in the app listing is now taking up the entire app screen. The relevant information such as category and tags is moved to the area under the screenshots. The progress bar showing the app download progress is now being replaced by a circular indicator over the app icon.
