Maximizing screen real estate is unarguably the biggest trend going on right now in the smartphone market. The only hindrance to achieving a full-screen view on the front side of a device is placing the front-camera somewhere else, and smartphone makers are finding more and more innovative ways of doing that. We’ve seen waterdrop notches, pop-up selfie cameras, dual-slider designs, and a number of other innovations only to shift the front camera somewhere else so that screen size can be maximized. But now Asus has come out with another innovative mechanism to achieve the same: a flip camera!
Asus Zenfone 6 specs and availability
That’s right. Asus Zenfone 6 has been launched yesterday, and surprisingly it comes with a motorized flip-camera on its back to solve the problem that other smartphone makers have been solving with pop-up cameras. The dual-lens camera with 48mp + 13mp lens flips on an axis of 180-degrees and comes forward to take your selfies whenever you need it. Something like this:
It’s worth noting that nobody knew that Asus is going to use this particular mechanism for achieving a full-screen design. People were instead expecting the company to use a dual-slider mechanism that leaked last month. In that design, the back side of the device could be slid both ways – slightly towards the upper side, and slightly towards the lower side. Sliding towards the upper side would expose the selfie camera while sliding towards the lower side would reveal two front-facing loudspeakers. However, the company has decided to use this new flip mechanism that no one knew earlier. Clearly, there’s some serious innovation going on at Asus when it comes to relocating the selfie camera.
As far as other specs of Zenfone 6 are concerned, it comes with a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB/8GB RAM, 64GB – 256GB storage, 6.4-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display, and a whopping 5,000 mAh battery. The price of the device starts from €499 and goes all the way up to €699, as you can see below.
The device will be shipped starting from the 25th of May.
