It’s the 8th of May, and as scheduled, Google has launched its Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones. Both look almost completely similar to the last year’s flagship Pixel smartphones and both have got the same camera sensors as well. The difference, as we knew already from the leaks, is in terms of processing power packed inside them. And that difference, along with a few others which we will explore below, has now brought the starting price of Pixel 3a smartphones down to $399 now.
Specifications and market availability of Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL
If you check out our updates regularly, you might already have heard about the specifications of both these devices. They’re the same as the ones which had leaked. But if you don’t know, here is a brief: both devices come with Snapdragon 670 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 12.2mp primary camera, and 8mp secondary camera. The difference exists in the term of display and battery – while Pixel 3a comes with 5.6-inches large display and 3,000 mAh battery, its bigger sibling will come with 6-inch display and 3,700 mAh battery. Both devices support 18-watt fast charging, which means that a 15 minutes charge can give you usage time of up to 7 hrs.
Probably the biggest highlight of both these Pixel devices is their camera. Since the camera sensor is the same as that which is found in Pixel 3 XL, we can expect these devices to match the photography performance of its more expensive predecessors. All premium camera features like Night Sight, Top Shot, HDR+, and Super Resolution are also present.
Now let’s talk about some of the other compromises which have been done to keep the cost low. The body is made of Polycarbonate instead of glass and metal. On the front as well you don’t get Gorilla Glass – you get Dragon Tail glass instead. These are some of the new things that came to be known yesterday.
Two other pleasant surprises in Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are the return of 3.5mm headphone jack and Active Edge functionality that was seen in its predecessors. Both these features can come really handy in the overall smartphone experience.
Finally, let’s talk about the price. While Pixel 3a has been priced at $399, Pixel 3a XL will cost $479. And surprisingly, while we were expecting both of them to be available in India before anywhere else, it turns out that things are exactly opposite of that. In the United States, they’re already being sold by T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, Spectrum Mobile, C Spire, and Google Fi. These phones will arrive in India on the 15th of May, while in other markets they’re already available. So if you want to get any of these 2 phones, you can do so immediately from your preferred carrier.
