Google has always been a step ahead when its about building features that entice users. It has only been a few days since the company added food ordering functionality to its Assistant, Search and Maps applications, and now a new food-related feature has been added by them to Google Maps. The most popular navigation app on the planet can now tell you what the popular dishes are at any restaurant. So, the next time when you go to a new restaurant or just browsing through a few, you may not need to look through the reviews.
From getting you directions to helping you find a popular dish, Google Maps is there for your dining journey. You’ve heard of “farm-to-table”—now we bring you from “door-to-dish.” – Quoted Google while announcing this sweet add-on.
Popular Dishes on Google Maps – How does it work?
The feature was announced by the company yesterday, and it’s powered by a machine learning algorithm. The algorithm combines names of most popular dishes (as told by the visitors of restaurants) with relevant photos and reviews, and you can scroll through these dishes seamlessly as seen from the GIF below –
What makes the feature more interesting is the fact that reviews that are not in your language can be translated with a single tap. And since the feature works with the help of contributions done by the users, Google requests you to share the images of your meal on Google Maps whenever you eat something that you like. It also involves opening up your privacy especially because you will be sharing the images of what you’re eating. But, that’s what makes it a crowdfunded well-managed experience.
The feature is currently being made available for Android users but iOS users will get it in the coming months.
